More about Playing With Percussion
This course demonstrates to students how to make their own musical instruments from every day items. Activities lead students to make five different “found object” instruments that are theirs to keep. Students will understand history and music instruction through highly interactive hands-on activities.
Learners begin by launching an investigation into the two families of percussion instruments and the elements of percussion sound. Next, students will take off on a tour of rhythms around the world by studying the origin of instruments and the cultures from which they emerged.
Playing With Percussion creates young musicians who develop skills and techniques to play their handmade instruments with methods like call and respond and rhythm development.
At the end of the course, instructors may opt to invite other students and parents to a percussion ensemble. Students will be proud to display and play the instruments that they created, share their newly found music vocabulary and the stories behind their instruments.
Children will be inspired to explain the cultural history of a musical instrument that reflects their own heritage. They will be excited to demonstrate newly acquired percussion techniques and perform in an ensemble. The performance will end with a “meet the performers" session. Playing With Percussion Course Outline highlights each lesson, detailing examples of musical instrument construction, percussion playing techniques and a rich music fundamentals vocabulary list complete with pronunciations.
You don’t need to buy a thing! Each Playing With Percussion kit provides ALL teaching materials and classroom supplies for up to 20 students to make the musical instruments arrive conveniently packed in complete with a demonstration DVD.
